Mercedes have unveiled their 2017 contender, the W08, as they aim for a fourth consecutive World-Championship-winning season.
The W08 will be piloted by Triple World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who returns for his fifth season with the Silver Arrows, and he branded the car ‘a powerful beast’ and ‘the most detailed piece of machinery in F1.’
Toto Wolff, however, has downplayed possibilities of Mercedes’ continued dominance.
Fully named the ‘W08 EQ Power+,’ the car interestingly does not sport a substantial fin along the rear engine cover, whereas rivals Sauber and Force India, meanwhile have done.
Hamilton will be joined by a new teammate in 27-year-old Valtteri Bottas, who claimed nine podiums in 77 starts for Williams.
The Brackley-based outfit enjoyed a landslide victory in last season’s Constructors Championship, winning 19 wins in 21 races.
2017 will mark the first season that Mercedes will be without Nico Rosberg.
The German’s absence follows his retirement from Formula 1 after clinching the World Drivers Championship last year.
